Creative Writing Final

Creative Writing Final
  1. In this class I have written a lot of things, both in my journal and on my blog. Each piece is unique. You can tell how I’m feeling when I write because it will show in the piece.

2. I read mostly pieces from my friends- Audrey and Sarah. I read others pieces if it was required. I remember reading something of Ralph’s about 50’s music and I think that’s how our friendship started. In the beginning of the year I read a lot of books but I never finished the series.

3. When I was setting up my blog I was thoroughly frustrated and confused. I had to keep asking Audrey for help because I had no idea what I was doing and I’m not really tech savy. The way I came up with my blog name was just using my name and adding blog to it. Like I said- I’m not creative. I’m not sure who read my blog. I know Audrey would if I pestered her about it, and other people would if they had to. I would’ve wanted anyone to read it and I wish they would’ve left comments. I probably won’t use my blog in the future, I will leave it as a high school memory to look back on and relive that part of my life.

4. As for my journal- there’s a lot of writing in it. Mostly things Mrs. Fraser assigned. The only people who would read it would be people who want to know more about me or snoopers, other than that nobody would care. I will continue to journal but not in that journal- that journal will be more memories of my favorite class in highschool. I will probably write about things that happen in my everyday life that I will want to remember.

5. He was there when I needed him the most.
He was there when I was having a bad day.
He was the one I would call and talk to until one in the morning.
He was the one that made me tell him I loved him even though I knew he didn’t feel the same way.
He was the one that would send me sweet messages that I never wanted to get rid of.
He was a thrilling person
He was the man I wanted to be with forever.
But he was also the one who broke my heart.
He was the one who made me cry.
He was the the one that embarrassed me in front of his friends and would laugh at me for it.
He was my best friend and worst enemy.
He was my everything.
And now he is my nothing.
He isn’t there for me when I cry.
He isn’t there for me to call.
He isn’t there to send me sweet messages.
He isn’t the one to tell me he loves me.
All he is- is a ghost.
This piece is about someone who I use to love but then suddenly dropped me from his life and it kills me. He was a very important person and always will be.

6. “I am a tiny ladybug trying to make my way through life.” That is a piece from my I Am Poem. It’s my favorite piece in the whole poem.

7. I’m not sure what kind of creative writing I will do but I hope to be a big time author and get my name out there. What I get from creative writing is freedom to be who I am and calmness, also ideas. This differs from writing I do in school or regular life because people usually expect certain things and I have to write to please them, with this I can write whatever I want and not cater to pleasing others.

8. I loved reading your writing pieces and I really enjoyed having class with you. Continue doing good things in life and go wherever the wind takes you :)

About a Boy

About a Boy Prompt Writing
“When children have to ‘look after’ their parents.”
When I was nine, my dad was dying of cancer. Before we had to move I would always watch him when he was asleep and wonder if he was okay; I mean he slept most of the day away and I didn’t understand why. Then when we moved to Missouri with my aunt, she told me I didn’t have to watch him anymore and I wasn’t really allowed to see him either, but that didn’t stop me from leaving my room and sneaking into his to see if he was okay. The outcome was always the same- always sleeping. Now I’m looking after my aunt. Sometimes she gets down in the dumps and says some really dumb things that make me worry. I also worry and look after my grandparents. They have done it for me for as long as I can remember, now it’s my turn.

Such as a thing as too much free time?
Yes, there is a time when you have to much free time and man it’s scary. In the beginning you’re more than happy to lounge around and do nothing, but after a while it begins to get to you. You begin to think of the worst moments in your life and relive them over and over, then you begin to overthink just about everything. Then all these thoughts and overthinking everything begins to get to you and it drives you mad, so then you have a burst of anger and have a fit about everything no matter how big or small. And after the anger comes sadness, now you are sad about everything. I advise you to just take a nap and everything will be okay.

Children's Book: Next Steps

A Bad Day At The Beach
  • Each line is a page.

Today it’s hot out.

So Daisy and her family are going to the beach.

After a very long ride, they finally reach the beach.

The sun and sand are super hot, so they put down a towel to sit on.

But the water is ice cold.

After playing in the water, Daisy sits in the sand to warm up.

All of a sudden- something pinches Daisy.

“OW!” Yelled Daisy, jumping up. Looking down she sees a crab.

Upset Daisy runs back into the water, but forgot it was cold.

Dripping wet, Daisy runs to her mom.

“Mama!” I wanna go home! Daisy cried out.

Daisy began to cry, so her mom brought her back to the towel.

Suddenly Daisy fell asleep and took a nap.

When Daisy woke up, She was very hot and itchy.

Daisy went to scratch her arm and screamed out in pain.

Daisy had a SUNBURN!

Once again in tears, Daisy ran to her mom.

“Mama, I WANNA GO HOME!!!!” Daisy screamed.

Tired out, Daisy was carried by her dad to the car.

And on the way home…..

Daisy fell asleep.

And ended up at an Ice cream truck.

Daisy and her mom got some Ice cream and walked back to the water.

But before long, Daisy dropped her Ice cream.

Daisy began to cry, so her mom brought her back to the towel.

Daisy had some cold cream on her that took away the pain of the sunburn. Then she had a snack and went to sleep. Before Daisy fell asleep, she thought to herself “I hope we go back to the beach tomorrow.”

Author: Kate Allen

Pages: 13

Summarize the book in 3 sentences: Moving from Kansas to California. Visits grandma in Florida. Lizard goes from Florida to California.

Favorite/ most interesting sentence in the book: “ That green lizard was stuck on the window inside the dryer; with clothes going around it in every direction.”

What age(s) do you think this book would be appropriate for? Children 8 years old, because there are a lot of words on the page and little kids get bored easily.

Window Poem

Window Poem
Straight ahead I see homes, a yard of green, garages and homes. Bushes and trees, a little road.

To my left is a thing full of mailboxes, a huge hill and woods.

It’s empty, everyone is at work or school. No matter what, the birds are always always chirping.

Deer running across the yard.

And a rock sits all alone by itself in the corner of the yard.

Inspired by Hopper

Nighthawks
She sits in the empty coffee shop all alone. The smell of coffee wafts through the restaurant. Warm air circulates throughout the shop. It’s been a sleepless night, she should be in bed but instead here she is, staring out the window into the dark town. A chair screeches across the floor as someone pulls it out from under the table so they can sit. A ceramic cup is placed in front of her with piping hot coffee filled to the brim. She lifts her head and looks up; across from her is an older man who seems sad. “Penny for your thoughts?” He asks her with a smile. She smiles back and tells the man how she is dreading going to work in the morning, she might be getting fired. The man express his concern for her and says nice things. The two chat ideally until the girl asks him what he’s doing up at this hour. His happiness diminishes and he seems to droop. “My wife passed away.” The man tells the woman. She gets up from where she’s sitting and hugs this stranger. Then they are back sitting and chatting some more. Their quiet chatter of conversation is all that is heard in the diner. Before the two of them know it, the sun is in the morning sky. Two plates are put in front of them by a waitress that listened to them for five hours and felt like doing something nice for them. They graciously take the food and eat slowly before the girl remembers she needs to get to work. The man smiles at her and bids her good luck, she thanks him and makes plans to meet up again with this man later. It’s now four thirty in the afternoon, the man hasn’t left the building. The bell over the front door dings and in steps the girl. Both of their spirits are lifted when they see one another. They become good friends, neighbors, and keep up this routine over the years.

Writers as Readers

Writers as Readers
  1. When you read, what do you need to be comfortable?
When I read, I just need quiet. I can read anywhere as long as it’s quiet.

4. What is one of your best memories connected with reading? I don’t really have any memories connected with reading, I just remember sitting on my cousin’s couch, bundled in blanket, and reading a book.

5. Have you ever picked up a book and been excited to turn the page? And the next, and the next? What book? Why couldn’t you stop reading? Is there a book you had to trudge through to finish? There’s been a lot of books I’ve read and had been excited to turn the page. Some books that I haven’t been able to get through are the books you are required to read in and English class. I just find them so boring.

12. Do you think that someone who reads a lot might become a stronger writer? Do you think we pick up vocabulary, sentence structures, themes, etc. from the books we read that come out directly or indirectly in our own writing? I think someone who reads a lot might become a stronger writer. I think we pick it up from anything that we read. I also think it comes out both directly and indirectly in our writing.

13. Do you think you’d ever write a book someday? Do you know what it would be about? How would you want to be described on the “About the Author” on the front cover? Hopefully one day I hope to write a book. I’m not sure what it would be about, probably a love story. For the “About the Author” I would liked to be described as a long time writer who is finally being discovered and hopes to be successful in the writing world.
