A Little Treasure
There once was a group of teenagers hanging out in a field. This was their signature hangout spot, It’s surrounded by some trees with a little creek there. Today though they were up to no good and getting in trouble. They all sat around in the grass drinking glass bottles of soda and chatting. All of a sudden two of the boys started having a fist fight, while the girls shrieked and shouted for the boys to stop. One boy went down and landed on a bottle, breaking it and crying out in pain. The rest of the group saw blood beginning to pool around the boy, quickly they called an ambulance and waited for them to arrive. After ten minutes the red and white vehicle showed up hauling the injured boy away, the rest of the friends got in there cars and followed behind leaving their drinks abandoned. A few days later a homeless man was walking through the field and was about to pass out from dehydration, as he begins to fall slowly to his knees he sees three bottles of soda. Quickly he grabs them and gulps them down before continuing his trek. Years pass, seasons change, trees get cut down and a school is built. A group of children go outside for a treasure hunt with their teacher. Everyone splits up and wanders around looking for an item on their list. A quiet girl slowly wanders around looking for something to put in her bag. Slowly time passes and the girl begins to get sick of finding nothing. On the verge of giving up, she wanders a bit more before shouting out in glee to her friend, who comes rushing over. “Look what I found!!!” The girl excitedly tells her friend nudging the item with her shoe. “What is it?” Asks her friend. “Pick it up.” The friend tells the girl. Slowly and fearful of getting hurt, the girl slowly picks up the item and holds in towards the sun. Mesmerized the girl looks at the item. It’s rather heavy. Smooth in some places but jagged on the sides. Too happy to be afraid the girl places the thick piece of glass in her bag and goes back to class. Once in class she shares her item and isn’t sure what to say about it because she hasn’t a clue what this thing is. When the girl gets home she washes the item and shows her family with a giant smile on her small face. Her mom ruins her bliss by telling her it’s just some old coke bottle. Trying hard not to be sad, the girl looks at her treasure once again and a smile appears on her face. Happy and content she places her unknown item on her shelf, far from harm and continues on with her life. Every now and then the girl looks upwards and smiles to herself as she remembers her beautiful little item sitting up there.
*Authors Note* This piece was inspired by the piece of glass that I found when we went on the scavenger hunt. A majority of this story was made up, but it was fun to write :)
maybe you could have broken up the story instead of making it one huge paragraph. But good story all the same
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer! Much like in the story, I hungout on a baseball field a lot as a kid. It was my escape from all my problems and everyday life. This was very well written, I liked how it was partially made up but very truthful at the same time. Good work!
ReplyDeletewell done story it was very intriguing and I liked the story overall.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! I remember this item! I like how the story went through time. Also, I'm sorry if I am boring. :D
ReplyDeleteI like that you incorporated our walk as a class into your story--I feel like a celebrity to be the teacher included! : )
ReplyDeleteI can relate with the little girl because as a little kid I used to walk in my grandma's field behind her apartment and I would always find remnants of coke cans and different types of 'treasures'. I enjoy how you styled the writing and how it tells three different stories.
